RV appliances are basically house appliances that have been to the gym - they take more abuse, they're harder to service, and they cost more to replace. The big one is the fridge. About half of all the appliance calls we run are "my Dometic isn't cooling" or "my Norcold smells like ammonia." Fridge work is fixable on-site about 70% of the time. The other 30% need a new cooling unit, which is a 4-6 hour job we do at your site.
After fridges, the next-most-common calls are washer-dryer combo units (Splendide is the big name - we know them well) and microwaves (almost always a replacement, not a repair - microwaves are sealed units).
Why Appliance Service Fails Faster in Florida
Absorption fridges (the gas/electric kind in most Class A's and travel trailers) fail in three places: the cooling unit (sealed system, full replacement), the control board (electronic, replaceable), or the thermistor (cheap, easy). About 60% of "my fridge isn't cooling" calls turn out to be control board or thermistor - the cheap fixes - which is why we always test those first.
Compressor fridges (Norcold compressor models, plus aftermarket installs) fail more like a household fridge - usually the compressor or the controller. Those are typically full replacements, but they cool faster and use less energy than absorption.
What We Fix - Appliance Service
What Our Appliance Service Service Includes
Appliance service calls start with a basic test: power, function, and known failure points. For fridges, that means voltage at the AC and DC inlets, gas pressure if applicable, control-board status lights, and thermistor resistance. Twenty-minute diagnostic.
From there it's either a parts swap (most cases, finished same visit) or a full replacement (scheduled return).
Fridge specialists
Dometic, Norcold, Furrion, and Vitrifrigo - all major brands. We know which ones are worth fixing and which are worth replacing.
Cooling-unit replacement
Full sealed-system replacement on absorption fridges. 4-6 hours at your site.
Microwave & range
Whirlpool, Greystone, Suburban, Wedgewood - we replace the units that can't be repaired and service the ones that can.
Washer-dryer combo
Splendide and LG combos serviced regularly. Drum bearings, control boards, and pump replacements.

Florida-Specific Appliance Service Considerations
Florida humidity messes with absorption fridges in a specific way - the cooling unit needs to be level (within 3 degrees) to work right, and Florida's high ambient temp means the fridge has to work harder to begin with. Park your rig with one wheel six inches lower and your cooling unit will gas-lock and die early. We see this constantly on rigs at unleveled storage lots.
Norcold's older absorption units (the N6/N8 series specifically) have a documented recall history with cooling-unit failures. If you've got one of those, we recommend the proactive replacement when you see the first signs of weakness. They don't get better.
Emergency Appliance Service Service Across Florida
Fridge full of food and not cooling is borderline-emergency - call us and we'll prioritize the call. If we can't get there for 24 hours, get the food into a campground cooler with ice and we'll take care of the rig the next day.
If you smell ammonia near your fridge, get out of the rig, ventilate it, and call us. That's a cooling-unit leak and it's not something to ignore. Cooling units don't repair - the unit gets replaced. We do that work all the time.

Appliance Service - Common Questions
Straight answers from our appliance service call log.
My fridge worked fine yesterday and now nothing - what is it?
Most likely a control board or thermistor issue. Both are diagnosable in 20 minutes and most cases are a same-visit fix. - Helena
Should I rebuild or replace my cooling unit?
Depends on age. If the rest of the fridge is under 8 years old, rebuild. If it's older, replace the whole fridge - the rest of the unit (door seals, controls, panels) will fail soon anyway. We'll be honest with you about which makes sense.
Can you switch my absorption fridge to a 12V compressor fridge?
Yes - this is a popular upgrade. You get faster cooling, better off-grid efficiency, and no leveling sensitivity. Plan on $2,250-$3,250 with the unit and installation.
My fridge cools fine on AC but not on gas - what is it?
Almost always a clogged burner orifice or weak gas pressure. We clean and test the gas side as a $185 service. Sometimes it's a thermocouple, which adds about $145.
How long do RV fridges last?
Absorption fridges average 10-14 years in Florida. Compressor fridges go 12-16 years. Cooling-unit replacements can extend an absorption fridge's life another 5-8 years if the rest of it is healthy.
Will an inverter run my microwave?
Depends on size. A standard 1000W microwave needs about 1,500-2,000W of inverter to run cleanly. Plan accordingly. We can size and install the inverter for you. - Helena
Can you install a residential fridge?
Yes - we do residential-fridge swaps regularly on Class A coaches. Most need a 30-amp inverter capable of running the fridge during travel. Total install runs $2,850-$4,850 depending on the fridge and inverter setup.
My washer-dryer combo won't drain - is it dead?
Usually the pump or the drain hose is clogged. We pull and clean the pump as a $245-$385 service. Worth doing before you replace the whole unit.
How much for a full appliance check?
$185 for a complete inventory check on every major appliance - fridge, microwave, range, water heater, washer-dryer, generator. Worth doing on a used rig before you commit. - Helena
Will running on gas hurt the fridge?
No - that's how absorption fridges were designed to work. The gas side actually cools faster than the electric side. Most folks just use electric out of habit.
